Glenn Dale "Joe" Barnard passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at his home in Lake Suzy, Florida.

He was born September 28, 1928, the son of Wilbur and Ruth (Moore) Barnard in Cedar, Iowa. He attended Cedar School, graduating in 1946.

He married Thelma Mae Moody in January 1951 (deceased April 1958).

Joe was proud to serve his country in the US Army as Corporal, 1st Platoon, Company I, 86th Infantry. He served on active duty in Korea (1951-1952) as a gunner.

He enjoyed a very successful career with Dekalb Seed Corn Company - beginning in Grinnell, Iowa, in 1952; transferred to Chatham, Ontario, Canada, in 1966 and retiring in 1988 to Florida. Joe was a member of the Corn Trade Seed Association for several years during his career with Dekalb.

Joe was a successful student and instructor of the Dale Carnegie course. As an active supporter of the community, Joe was a member of the local Chatham Lion’s Club and local Elks Club in Florida.

He married Deanna Bekaert in December 1966 and later divorced.

Joe was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and baseball. He enjoyed travel over the years and completed countless home renovations and landscaping projects. Above all, what mattered most and brought him the most joy were family gatherings at his home and cottage. Loved, admired, respected, and will be dearly missed by so many colleagues, friends, and family.

Joe is survived by his wife, Virginia "Gini" (Lucas) Barnard of Lake Suzy, Florida; two sisters; Patricia (Barnard) DeWitt of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Bonnie (Barnard) Smith of Boise, Idaho; sisters-in-law; Alice Barnard and Doris Barnard of Oskaloosa and Elaine Barnard of Ankeny, Iowa. There are numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and cousins.

Joe was a loving father and grandfather, adored by his children and grandchildren – daughters, Linda Jolene (Barnard) Neely and Vimy Lynne (Barnard) Roberts (Paul); son, Craig Alan Barnard (Germaine); grandchildren; Amy Jolene (Neely) Madter (Mike), Erin Michelle Neely, Jordan Matthew Barnard, and Maeve Catherine Jane Roberts; great-granddaughter, Addison Jolene Madter; stepchildren and grandchildren: daughter, Robin (Stanek) Ricketts (Mike); son, Kimm Stanek (Sandy); and grandchildren: Kyle (Ricketts) Freedman (Will), Mickey Ricketts, and Amber Stanek.
