Paul is the son of Jacob "Jake" Jubie Baker and Effie E Grace of Missouri. He is a brother to Carl, Earl, Ralph, Mary and Edna Baker. Their father worked as a railroad engineer.
The 1940 census shows Paul Joseph to be an inmate of the Missouri State Penitentiary. Mr. Baker was here only 10 hours before dying of Delirium Tremens and alcoholic psychosis. He had worked as a cook in Missoula. He apparently at times used the alias, Steve Reno. He had been married and was divorced.
