Kenneth Harold Bice

DECATUR — Kenneth Harold Bice, 95, of Decatur, passed away Oct. 22, 2017 at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veteran’s Home in Huntsville. His visitation will be Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at Roselawn Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. with the service beginning at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Daniel Compton is officiating.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Kendra Hobbs (Steve); son, Randy Bice and daughter, Cindy Blankenship (David); six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Earline Bice; son, Keith Harold Bice; three sisters and one brother.

Mr. Bice enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1942. He served with the First Cavalry Division, 603 Light Tank Company. Mr. Bice witnessed the return of General Douglas McArthur to the Philippines, just a short distance down the beach. During the Luzon battle, he was wounded twice. During his service in WWII, Mr. Bice received two Purple Hearts, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Bice was discharged from military service on May 11, 1947 at Oliver General Hospital, in Augusta, Georgia.

Mr. Bice later retired from NASA in 1981 after working 21 years. He received several awards for his work as a machinist, and furthering the space program. He was a big Alabama football fan and also a big Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He was a loving and faithful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
