Emil W. Wright, 93, of Gladwin, passed away Tuesday April 23, 2013 at Bortz Health Care Center-Rose City following a lingering illness. He was born in Butman Twp., Gladwin County on June 3, 1919, to the late Eber M. and Elizabeth (Schranz) Wright, and was a lifelong resident of Gladwin County. He married the former Alta Marie Snyder on Oct. 29, 1946 in Gladwin; she survives him.
Emil served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII as an S/Sgt Aerial Gunner in the 825 Bomb Sq. He was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for injuries received when he was shot down during a B-24 Liberator’s mission over Europe (Rome-Arno Campaign).
He was the former co owner of the Emil & Herman Meat Locker in Gladwin. After a short retirement Emil joined the Department of Natural Resources where he managed the Gladwin Area State campgrounds for 14 years until his final retirement. Emil and Marie enjoyed travel and spent the next 33 winters in Southern Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; a son, Ray (Joanne) Wright; grandchildren, Mike, Patrick and Brooke Wright; great-grandson, Leopold Emil Wright; a sister, Florence Morgan (Al) of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Betty Wright; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick F. and Linda Wright, a brother Herman Wright, and a sister Josephine Sicard and brother-in-law Milt Sicard. In honoring Emil’s wishes cremation will take place and no services are planned at the time. Arrangements are entrusted to Sisson Funeral Home.
