Sallie Gertrude Cobb Kennamer preferred the name of Gertrude and rarely used Sallie as part of her name. She was the daughter of John Bowen Cobb and Magnolia aka Maggie Kilgore of Madison County, Alabama. Her father, John Bowen Cobb, died September 7, 1920, at the young age of 35. He left his widow with 4 young children - Gertrude, William Andrew, Mamie, and Fronie. In 1921, her mother had married Robert N Brazelton of Madison County, Alabama.
By 1930, Gertrude was married to Robert Ray Kennamer, and there were three sons in the home. They lived in New Hope, Madison County, Alabama. By 1940, the family was living in Woodville, Jackson County, Alabama and had grown with three additional children. The obituary for James, the oldest son, in 2000, lists additional children also.
Gertrude died August 27, 1974 at the age of 68 years, in Palm Beach, Florida, where the Kennamers had made their home sometime after the 1940s. Her husband died in West Palm Beach, Florida on October 21, 1989 at the age of 86.
