Adrian Littleton West

Adrian Littleton West, 92 of Floydada, rode off to heaven on God’s finest horse, October 18, 2014, after a short illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday October 20, 2014 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada with Jack Elliott, Mike Anderson, and Elder Ronnie Hedges officiating.

Burial followed at the Lakeview Cemetery in Floyd County.

Adrian Littleton West was born to David and Edna West, in the Lakeview Community, on May 22, 1922. He married Sarah Martin on March 26, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah West, his parents, David and Edna West, his sisters, Oretta West, Dessie Mae McCravey, Lavada Neff, Mary Neff, and brothers, Arvin West and SL West.

Adrian helped on the family farm in the Lakeview Community; later he worked on the Montgomery Ranch with his brother SL. Adrian also drove a truck for many years for Pete Kendrick of Floydada. He participated in rodeos, entering the bareback, saddle bronc, and bull riding contests.

Adrian retired in 1984 after fifteen years of service at the Texas Highway Department, where he was a heavy equipment operator. Adrian loved horses and he broke horses for the public to supplement his living. He taught his daughters to ride at a very early age, and he passed his love of horses on to them. He was active in the Floydada Riding Club for many years and he was also the coach for his daughter’s pony express team.

When Adrian was in the seventh grade at Lakeview Community School, he played basketball on the high school varsity basketball team. When he was in the Army he played baseball to pass the time. Adrian went to the Army in 1944; he served in the Philippines and in Okinowa. He was also in the Battle of Luzon.
