She was born in Hillsville, Va., to Bessie and Jesse Alderman April 28, 1927.
After graduating from Hillsville High School, Evelyn attended the School of Nursing of Saint Mary’s Memorial Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee, and graduated in 1947. Becoming a Registered Nurse was a dream for her and led to years of dedicated work as a nurse in various hospitals and nursing facilities in Delaware, Va., and Tennessee. She met Grant Carter, a young tank commander from World War II, and after marrying moved to Maryville, Tennessee. Grant left us in 2006.
Evelyn was a member of Saint Marks United Methodist Church, Louisville, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jesse Moir and James Fred Alderman.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn A. Gibbs and her husband, Robert H. Gibbs, of Williamsburg, Virginia, sister-in-law Jean Alderman of Draper, Virginia, numerous nephews and nieces, and their children and grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held by Reverend Curt McKee at Grandview Cemetery, Maryville, Tenn., at 1:00 pm on October 4, 2017.
