Joseph Earnest Hosfelt was born September 9, 1884. He departed this life March 24, 1915. Age 30 years, 6 months, 15 days.

He was the youngest in a family of eight children, seven of whom remain.

About 12 years ago he professed faith in Christ and united with the Baptist Church. For a time he drifted away from the religious faith, but when he felt the strong hand of affliction laid upon him, his soul returned to its hope. Like David; “Before he was afflicted he went astray.” (Psalms 119:67).

During his long sickness and suffering, which was prolonged by the Father for some wise purpose, he became perfectly reconciled to the Lord and the Lord’s Providences in his life so that when the summons came to him to “come up higher,” he was not only “ready,” but gladly and Joyfully responded to the call. He died with a clear living happy faith in Christ. Truly his was only a “departing” to be with Christ.

He leaves behind him a faithful companion, a little son, an aged father and mother, three brothers and four sisters, a number of other more remote relatives and many friends to mourn his departure. But no one who knew of the long sufferings of the sufferer and his happy faith in God wishes for his return. So we too, feel constrained to write: “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from hence forth; yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.”
