Joseph Jerome Hemler

The son of Christian Henry & Catherine (Fleischman) Hemler, he married Maria Ann Little.

He fathered Anna Catherine "Kate" (b. @1849), Georgianna Elizabeth (b. @1850), Thomas Jacob (b. 12/13/52), John Henry "Harry" (b. 07/30/53), Mary Joanna (B. @1855), Franklin Christian (b. 01/22/57), Matilda Agnes (b. @1858), James B. (B. @1859), Joseph Jerome (b. 02/05/61), Barbara Alice (b. @1862), and Mary Gertrude (b. 08/26/67).

In 1860, he was a carpenter living in Mount Pleasant Township, Adams County, and stood 5' 10" tall with black hair and dark eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Adams County October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 5 as a private with Co. G, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in Gettysburg.
