Rail retiree dead at 91
Alton B. Briggs, 91, of 1927 1st Ave. died at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, March 27, 1988, at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center, following a brief illness. Mr. Briggs retired as a machinist from the Pennsylvania Railroad, after 48 years' service. He was born April 13, 1896, in Fulton County, the son of Ira and Cora (Shadle) Briggs, and on July 26, 1920, in Altoona, married Beatrice E. Raffensperger, who died Nov. 28, 1986. Surviving are three sons: Alton B. Jr., at home; the Rev. David E. of Gail, Texas; and the Rev. William E. of Waukesha, Wis.; and three grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Edna Schultz of Bellemead. Mr. Briggs was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a life member and secretary-treasurer of the Logan Lodge Knights of Pythias. He was an Army vetrean of World War I. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Plank & Stitt Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.

BRIGGS - Services for Alton B. Briggs of 1927 1st Ave. will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Plank & Stitt Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, by the Rev. Ron Lindholm and the Rev. John W. Lee. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Plank & Stitt Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg.
