John (Butter) Schweitzer of 403 Pasadena Drive, Port Vue, died yesterday in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. A retired supervisor in the rolling mill department of the National plant, U.S. Steel Corp., he was a member of the Eleventh Ward Welfare Association, Duquesne Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose B.P.O. Elks, McKeesport Lodge 136, and St. Joseph Church, Port Vue, where he was a member and past president of the Ushers Club.
Born in West Mifflin, he was a son of the late John F. and Mary Manns Schweitzer and husband of the late Anna Dougherty Schweitzer. Surviving are sisters, A. Margaret Schweitzer, Beatrice Bach, Colette Malloy and Anna Stein of Duquesne and Bernadette McLaughlin of New Kensington; and brothers, James Schweitzer of Duquesne and Paul of St. Louis, Mo.
Friends will be received after 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Hunter-Edmundson-Striffler Funeral Home. Mass of christian burial will be offered Monday at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph Church by the Rev. Patrick Jones. Burial will be in New St. Joseph Cemetery. (McKeesport Daily News, March 9, 1979, p 12)
Note: Although the obituary lists West Mifflin as his place of birth, that area was Mifflin Township. West Mifflin was not a place until January 1944.
