At the age of 15 years, she was confirmed, and joined the Lutheran church. After her marriage (in 1842) she, with her husband, united with the United Brethren church, of which she was a faithful member until death.
Their home was always the home of the ministries, and were ready and willing at all times to do their part.
Mother Suman had a bright experience. An evidence of this being her last words: "I am His and He is mine. Oh, I see Jesus, He has come for me." Bidding those around her good-bye, and pleading with them to prepare to meet God, she folded her hands and went home.
She was the mother of 14 children, (9 boys and 5 girls), of whom three boys and 2 girls preceded her to the Spirit World. All of her children were present at the funeral. Her six sons, acted as pall bearers. A short service was held at her daughter's home in Ft. Recovery, Ohio.
Farewell, dear mother, sweet thy rest,
Weary with years and worn with pain;
Farewell, till in some happy place
We shall behold they face again.
"Tis ours to miss thee all our years,
And tender memories of thee keep;
Thine in the Lord to rest, for so
He giveth His beloved sleep.
The funeral services were held at the Antioch church, conducted by Rev. W.H. Shepherd, pastor of the United Church, assisted by Rev. Walters, of the Methodist Church. Interment at Antioch cemetery.
