Bud was born on his parents farm north of Grant City Feb. 24, 1926. He was the youngest of 9 children. His mother died when he was 12, so sister Doris helped raise him up.
He joined the army in 1945, being too skinny to get in while WWII was going on. He was a cook and stationed in Germany during the reconstruction after the war. While there he met and married Gisela Porges. He was discharged in Oct. 1948.
They made their home with various family members until he rented a farm near Sheridan , MO. Gisela was a city girl and had a hard time adapting to country life with outhouses and no running water. But she persevered and became adept at gardening and milking cows.
Their oldest, Charlotte May was born in 1950 while they lived at Sheridan. They moved to various farms near his home place. Billy was born in 1951 on Buds' Aunt Nellie Jacksons' farm. Barbara was born in 1954 on the old Simmons' place, and Rose was born in 1958 just south of where Bud started his life journey.
Bud was a hard worker, providing for his family any way he could. Farming, cutting trees, hauling coal, and baling hay for anyone he could.
He bought his home place after his father, Jim passed away. It became a century farm on 2008. That was one of his proudest moments in life.
The love of his life died Mar. 25, 1992. He missed her dearly.
Bud loved eating, swapping stories, telling jokes, and watching his 9 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, and 1 GGgrandchild grow. They loved spending time with Poppa Bud and hearing all his stories.
Bud passed away Aug. 14, 2017 at home, surrounded by his family. His stories and love of family will live forever in the memories and hearts of his children and grandchildren.
