Evelyn Dillon
Evelyn Benson Bates Dillon of Weiser, Idaho passed away peacefully at Indianhead Estates on Sunday, August 6, 2017. Born on December 11, 1922 in Weiser to Aaron C. and Fannie Lucherini Benson, she was the third child of five children.
Evelyn married John Ross Bates the 30th of December 1939 in Garfield, Idaho and later the marriage was solemnized in the L.D.S. Logan Utah Temple on October 22, 1940. To this union were born two children, Gerald (Gerry) Ross Bates and Glenda Kay Bates (Hartley).
Evelyn was bookkeeper for Ross and her father Aaron at Benson and Bates Plumbing, Heating and Electrical Company. Evelyn also worked for Larry Walker and Associates Washington County Prosecuting Attorney's Office as a legal secretary. She was recognized by Idaho Governor, Cecil Andrus for outstanding achievement in performance of six years duties as a public employee of the State of Idaho. The plumbing and electrical business was sold after 32 years and Evelyn and Ross moved to Boise, ID where a few years later Ross passed away after 45 years of marriage.
Four years after the passing of Ross, Evelyn married her long-time school friend Frank Dillon on November 2, 1988 in McCall, Idaho. Evelyn would say how blessed she was to have been married to two good men during her lifetime.
Evelyn was an avid sports fan, she especially like the Boise State Broncos and the Detroit Tigers baseball team and also cheered for the Weiser High School football team.
Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cross stitch and crossword puzzles. She was a marvelous cook. She loved to bowl and was on a ladies bowling team. She was called at twelve years old as the Weiser Ward organist and excelled at this calling most of her life. She enjoyed playing duets with her sister, Marjorie Bennion. As much as she enjoyed all these activities, her family was the most important to her. She loved getting together with all her family and always contributed to the parties with yummy food and a great sense of humor! She was a loving wise Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister and Friend.
Evelyn is survived by her sister, Marjorie Bennion of Weiser, ID; son, Gerry Bates of Chehalis, WA; Glenda Bates (Robert) Hartley of Fenton, MI; two grandsons, Tracee Senter and Nicholas Hartley; three granddaughters, Maleia Ciechalski, VaLyn Ahrens, and Cherie Adams; nine great grandchildren, Ireland, Sedonia, Dallen, Chelsea, Paige, Evelyn, Kaidan, James and Emmit; a special niece Gail Routsen and numerous other nieces and nephews; and a dear friend Terry Mooney. She was known by her grandchildren as the "Curly Grandma".
Services to be held at the LDS Chapel on Saturday, August 12, 2017 with the viewing at 10:00 and funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. Internment at Hillcrest Cemetery immediately following service.
