O'Belle Harris Polete, 90, gentle, loving and caring mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, was welcomed into God's arms on Thursday, March 1, 2007. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. March 2, at Clifton Funeral Home in Clifton, Texas. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Norse, and interment will follow at Our Saviours' Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Elida O'Belle was born in Norse, Texas, to the late Oscar H. and Dora (Colwick) Omenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse. She graduated from Clifton High School in 1935 and attended Massey Business School in Houston, Texas. In 1943, while in Houston, O'Belle met Carl Harris, a soldier serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps stationed at Ellington Field. They were married that same year at Zion Lutheran Church where she was secretary. When her Army husband was transferred, she left Houston and traveled with him until he was sent to Europe for service in World War II. O'Belle and Carl had one child, Olaf Harris. After World War II, O'Belle and Carl moved to Grand Prairie. She was employed at the Grand Prairie State Bank for 29 years, and at retirement, she was Executive Secretary and Assistant Cashier.

While living and working in Grand Prairie, O'Belle was very active in the community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Women's Veteran's Hospital in Dallas and the American Cancer Society. O'Belle was "Woman of the Month" for the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce. She was an officer in the American Legion Sam Pike Post No. 184 Auxillary, where she held the offices of president, treasurer and finance chair. O'Belle was a member of the Eastern Star, American Business Women's Association, Federation of Women's Clubs, the Diamond Jubileers Square Dance Club, Norwegian Leikering Dancers (who danced for King Olaf of Norway) and Bosque County Memorial Museum. In many of these organizations, O'Belle held offices and received recognition for her dedication.

O'Belle lost her husband, Carl, in 1961, and in 1985, she married her best friend of 15 years, Sergeant-Major Harry J. Polete Jr. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse. They moved to Norse, Texas, after they married and have been lovingly devoted to each other for over 21 years. They spent their retirement years ballroom dancing, square dancing, Norwegian folk dancing and traveling. O'Belle also enjoyed bowling, oil painting and water skiing.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Bakke and her husband, Mervin; and brother, Oscar Omenson Jr. and his wife, Doris.

Survivors include husband, Harry Polete; son, Olaf Harris; step-daughter, Jeannine Spicer; brother, Olaf Omenson and his wife, Sara; very special niece, Elaine Bell; five nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.
