He was born on his parents farm near Jerome on April 7, 1908, to Leslie and Jean (Ross) Cathcart. He was united in marriage to LaVern KcKern in Mystic on Nov. 28, 1929. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ella Jean (Mrs. Gerald) Hendershot of Newton, Linda (Mrs. Bill) Medland of Creston; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and a niece, Charlotte Bear of Centerville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
He was a Hositing Engineer for the Sunshine Coal Co. for many years and later owned and operated No. 4 Coal Co. near Centerville.
