Pete was born in Dekalb County, Alabama on January 25, 1921 to the late Davis J. and Addie L. Brooks. He has lived in the Fairview Community since 1955 and was employed with Ernest Holmes Wrecker Service for 36 years. He was of the Baptist faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Birmingham CL-62. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marie Brooks, four brothers and three sisters. He loved fishing, traveling, gardening and his flowers, hanging out with the gang at Dodd Brothers, eating breakfast at Hardees with Rick Erwin, having lunch with the Rossville seniors and having a dinner with Jim Bennett. He was a member of the VFW Post 3679 of Rossville. Pete loved his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was always giving words of advice and wisdom and was adored by those who knew him.
Survivors include his daughters, Jo Ann (Levon) Dempsey and Sandra (David) Wooden, grandchildren, Michael (Becky) Wooden, Keith (Angie) Dempsey, Karen (Pete) Hughes and Brian Dempsey, great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Brandon, Kayla, Justin and Erin, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM (Eastern Time) on Saturday, June 24, 2017 in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Jim Bennett officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park. Honorary Pallbearers will be his former employees of Ernest Holmes Wrecker Service, the Fairview Freedom Riders and the Loafers of Dodd Brothers.
