BAKER, Betty Hudson

Our dear mother, Betty, was born August 25, 1923 in Idabel, OK. She departed this life on June 19, 2017, at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years, Gregory Baker, whose ashes will be interred with hers as the family gathers graveside September 9. Betty is survived by children Foster (Nancy Lee), Marcus (Nancy Jo), and Linden (Michael Summer), 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Betty was a precious jewel of a person, generous with love, warmth, and mirth, who delighted in her family and friends. Her exquisite coloratura soprano voice, honored nationwide in her youth, was a perfect match for Gregory's beautiful baritone. They shared this gift over their many years in operettas, liturgical choral works, and private performances.

Betty Ann is the third child of Murphy Foster and Lura Jane Bryant Hudson. Born and raised in Idabel, OK, Betty had 1 brother and 2 sisters and they remained very close throughout their lives. Find them connected below. Betty's early life was remarkable. A vocal talent of some magnitude, she was a classically trained Coloratura Soprano. Upon her graduation, she was invited to come to New York City to perform at the Metropolitan. She gave of her talents in many genre throughout her life.

On 11 Feb 1945, Betty married Gregory Cargile Baker in Manhattan, New York, NY. They later made their home in Dallas, TX, where they raised 2 sons and a daughter. Betty and husband Greg with his beautiful baritone voice, often donated their time and talents to their church and occasionally stage. Both were lovers of fine music throughout their lives.

In their later years, Betty and Greg, retired and eventually sold their home in Dallas. They lived their final years with their loving daughter and her family in Kyle, Hays Co., TX. Greg preceded Betty by three years.

Betty's life will be memorialized by family and friends on 9 Sep 2017, at graveside services in Willow Wild Cemetery, Bonham, TX. Betty was my aunt and I adored her.
