Herschel William Bird, age 86, of Du Quoin, passed away July 26, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fairview Nursing Center.
Herschel was born October 3, 1922 to Dewey and Lillie Ridgeway Bird in Du Quoin, where he lived during his lifetime. He married Beverly Jo Krone later in life. Herschel was a construction laborer and a member of the First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jo Bird of Herrin; step-daughter Judy Dunham in Indiana; brother Kenneth Bird of Du Quoin; and sister Ruby Szczeblewski of Du Quoin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 28 at 3 p.m. at the graveside for family members only at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Rev. Gerlad Wright will oversee the services.
No visitation is scheduled.
