James A. “Jim” Banton, 73, of Hot Springs Village, arrived at his Heavenly home shortly after the sun set on May 26, 2017. He was born in Wilson, Arkansas, in the spring of 1944 to the late Ernest and EvaBell Banton.
Nicknamed “Speedy,” he set several school track records for the state of Arkansas. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the Navy proudly serving in active duty as an airplane mechanic.
A member of Spa City Bop & Swing, James was an accomplished dancer who won many competitions, taught dance classes, and even had his own in home dance studio.
James earned a degree in theology from Temple University in Tennessee and followed his calling to become a minister. It was James’ love of the Lord and amazing ability to tell a story which made him a successful minister and a wonderful father. His children will miss his stories, but will keep in their hearts the love he ministered and shared with so many.
His eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren brought James such great joy and will have stories of their own to pass down about their Pepaw. His four siblings will miss their “Banny Rooster” brother, but know he will be greeted in Heaven by their parents and siblings Maurice Banton, Estella Harris, Leola Darty, David Banton, Ernest Banton, and Geraldine Busby. James is also survived by “over” or “at least” 170 nieces and nephews and many, many cousins.
The family will be gathering at the Getwell Road Church in Southhaven, Mississippi on June 3, 2017 at 2 pm to Celebrate Jim’s Life.
