Phoebe Gleim, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gleim, was born January 21, 1863, in Des Moines, Iowa. She came to Kansas with her parents when she was four years old, and they settled on a farm 1-2 miles east of Arrington. On April 2. 1879, she was married to R. B. Alkins and departed this life June 27, 1933. She is survived by her husband and two children Mrs. Louisa Marlatt, Atchison, and Alva Aikins, Valley Falls; one son, Edward Hamon, by a former marriage, proceeded her in death eight years ago; four grandchildren Mrs Mabel Davis, George Hamon, Miles Hamon, and Mrs. Florence Garbe and one great grandson, Bobble Lee Childs. Mrs. Aikins is also survived by three sisters and three sisters proceeded her in death. Those surviving are, Mrs. Malcom Hamon, Mrs. A. J. Lewis and Mrs. T. P. Aikins. Mrs. Aikins had been an invalid for the past ten years and her husband has been a faithful attendant during her long illness. She has lived in this community all her life and was a devoted wife and mother, who loved her home and neighbors. She was converted and baptized in the Methodist faith. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon 1:30 o'clock at the home and at the Cole Creek Church at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. Bletscher. Burial was in Nortonville cemetery.
