Mary Belle Hawkins Turner, 84, of 512 Walnut St., Vevay, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at St. Luke West Hospital in Florence, Ky.
She was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Henry County, Ky., the daughter of William "Will" and Luvinia Tingle Hawkins.
She was a homemaker and was a caregiver for the elderly, and worked at the U.S. Shoe Corp. in Vevay for several years. She attended the Vevay Senior Citizens and was a member of Fredonia Baptist Church on Tapps Ridge.
She is survived by two sons, Randy Turner of Vevay and Terry Turner of Rising Sun; three daughters, Barbara Jean Canada of Holton; Scherry Griffin of Campbellsburg, Ky., and Donna Herald of Burlington, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Janice Bales of Tell City; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raymond Turner, on March 6, 1982; her parents; six sisters, Tilda Ann Hawkins, Lara May Perry, Gladys Roberts, Edna Marie Williams, Willetta Wheeler and Angela Lavern Aldridge; seven brothers, Joe, Suter, George Isaac, Earl, Luther Eleston, James Edward and John Woodrow Hawkins.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy make take the form of contributions to Fredonia Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Cards will be available at the funeral home.
