"Martha was born in San Angelo, Texas to the late Lee Waddell and Frances Story Waddell. The family later moved to Coleman, Texas where Martha graduated from Coleman High School prior to attending the University of Corpus Christi. In 1947, she married Walter I Moore of San Saba, Texas.
"After Walter completed his military service, the couple moved to Bryan, Texas where Martha worked in the Dean of Mens Office while Walter studied engineering at Texas A & M University. Their first child Deborah was born during their stay in Bryan. Following Walter's graduation, the couple moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where their second child, Walter, Jr was born. While in Corpus Christi, Martha was active in the garden club, Camp Fire girls, Cub Scouts, PTA, and Parkdale Baptist Church. Martha and her family moved to the Augusta area in 1965 following a brief residence in the Netherlands. In Augusta, Martha embarked on her professional career in accounting. She was a regional manager for H&R Block and later worked with a subsidiary of Georgia Railroad Bank to introduce automated payroll systems to this area. From there, she accepted a position with Southern Machine & Tool Company, rising to the position of Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. After retiring from Southern Machine & Tool in 1989, Martha was appointed by President George H.W.Bush to be a District Director for the 1990 census. In 1992, Martha was elected to the Georgia General Assembly, as Representative for the 113th district. Martha and her husband moved to Columbia County in 1975, where they became active in Republican politics. Martha and Walter worked with other long-time Republicans including, the late Senator Paul Coverdell, Senator Mack Mattingly, Senator Johnny Isakson, and Alec Pointevent to build the Republican Party in Georgia.Throughout her professional career and in retirement, Martha was an active volunteer for many organizations including, the National Association of Accountants, the Alzheimer's Association, the CSRA Parkinson Association and her beloved First Baptist Church of Augusta. At First Baptist, Martha was an active member of the Golden Circle Sunday School class and led the Home Bound ministry for several years.
"Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Walter I Moore, Sr,, her parents, brothers John Lee Waddell, Willard Waddell, and William J. Waddell, and sister Mable W. Allen.
"She is survived by her children, Deborah Moore McCord of Evans, and Walter I Moore, Jr and his wife Jane of Palm Springs Florida. Granddaughters, Heather M Varner and husband Jason of Atlanta and Megan McCord Seda of Evans, and great-grand son, Caiden Riley Seda of Evans. She is also survived by brothers Bernard Waddell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Phil Waddell and wife Jane of Granbury, Texas and sisters, Dorothy W. Edwards, Quincy Mass and Ann W. Loafman of Cleburne, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
"The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 19th, 2006 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Platts Funeral Home, 337 North Belair Road in Evans. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 20th at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison and Dr. Jacob Malone officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date.
