David Arlie Grigsby, 82, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in a local hospital. David was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, and will be greatly missed. He was one of five children born to Arlie and Vivian Grigsby in McLean, Texas and moved to the Chattanooga area to be near his children and grandchildren in 1996.

David was a high school teacher and counselor, and later a professor of educational psychology at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Many of his students called him "The Cookie Man" because he frequently made cookies and took them to class to share.

He was also a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Morocco, North Africa. He was a faithful member of the Ooltewah United Methodist Church.

David is survived by two sisters; his daughter, Lauri Holden; his son, David A. Grigsby Jr.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, with another one on the way. He was a kind and gentle soul and we look forward to seeing him again one day in our heavenly home.

A private burial service will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date. Services provided by Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services, 1724 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, Tenn., 37404,
