Jack was born June 29, 1926 in McLean, Texas. the eldest son of Arlie Lee and Vivian Landers Grigsby.

In 1944, he enlisted in the Army. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and earned a bronze star, as well as being awarded a good conduct medal. He also served in the Philippine Liberation and earned another bronze star, Army Occupation ribbon (Japan), and a Victory ribbon. He received 2 overseas service bars.

After serving in the Army, he met and married Marie James in November 1950 on Thanksgiving Day. He lived in Lubbock, TX where he was working on his Masters in mathematics, as well as teaching at Texas Tech. He also worked at the U.S. Post Office full time in Lubbock while he was attending school and teaching. In 1955, he moved to Fort Worth, TX with his young family to work at General Dynamics in the Engineering Department. While working at GD in Fort Worth, he taught fortran to engineers at GD, and in the evenings he taught at TCU.

He received his Masters Degree from SMU in engineering.

Later in life, he married Claire Meehan in Fort Worth.

Jack enjoyed his work, as well as going to McLean to see his parents. He could be found sitting in the front yard under a tree with a large glass of ice tea! While not working, he would spend time working on a stamp collection that his grandfather started for him. Big Jack enjoyed drinking Coors Light and listening to Bob Wills on the weekends. Playing 42 and poker were serious games for him.

Jack died in Lubbock on January 11, 2006, at the age of 79. HIs ashes were distributed in the fields of his parents' farm.

Survivors include his mother, James Neal Grigsby of San Antonio, Susan Marie Grigsby Morris and husband Fred Morris of Lubbock, and Jack W. Grigsby and wife, Jeannie of McLean, TX. Jack had two surviving grandchildren, Justin Morris of Lubbock, and Jaci Grigsby of Pampa. Survivors also include his siblings, David Grigsby, Arline Grigsby, and Emme Norman. He was preceded in death by his father, Arlie, one sister, Joyce Morris, and two grandsons, Dustin Matthew Morris and Marcus Wain Grigsby.
