OLD GROTONITES PASS TO BEYOND
-----
R.T. EBERSOLD AND W.M. LEWEY PASS AWAY; FUNERALS HELD TUESDAY [SEPTEMBER 12, 1939]
-----
R.T. Ebersold

"Rudy" Ebersold, as he was familiarly known to hosts of friends in Groton, where he had made his home for so many years, was one of the early settlers of Brown county. He came here in the eighties along with Joe Jost. Together they drove a team attached to a buggy to this country. Besides being a holder of Brown county land Mr. Ebersold also possessed Montana land at one time, and made his home at Hinsdale, Mont., for a time, but the last remaining years of his life were spent with his daughter at Genoa [Vernon County, Wisconsin]. He left Groton a number of years ago to make his home with her.

Mr. Ebersold was born May 10, 1875, at Maiden Rock, Pepin County, Wis., a son of Carl and Mathilda Ebersold. His early boyhood was spent in Buffalo and Pepin counties, Wis., but he came to the Dakotas when a young man and this country claimed him for a long period of years.

He was married to Miss Barbara Anna Thoeny, March 4, 1905, but she passed away in January 1919. A daughter, Anna Ruth passed away [December 18, 1918]. [An infant son Charles, born Thanksgiving Day 1918, died the day after his sister Anna Ruth, December 19, 1918.]

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J. R. Banta, of Genoa, Wis., and two sons, Michael of Minot, N.D., and Albert, of Marshfield, Wis. One granddaughter, Ruth Marie Banta, also is a survivor.

The body was shipped here for burial this week and the funeral was held at the Paetznick Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Interment was made in groton cemetery. The last sad rites were read by Rev. Luther C. Benson, while companions he had known in his youth were pall bearers -- J.A. Donovan, C.F. Zoellner, Henry Foth, Joe Jost, Jack Peterson and Val. Von Wald.
