John Pickett was one of three brothers who traveled from North Carolina to Alabama. The brothers were John, Henry, and Honea Pickett.

John (Jack) brought his wife and two children with him. It is thought that he settled in Butler County sometime between 1835 and 1838. His oldest two children, Jacob and Mary, were born in North Carolina and his younger two, John and Henrietta, were born in Alabama. John's first wife, Sallie, died probably about 1840 after the birth of their daughter, Henrietta. John then married his second wife, Jane, and had two daughters, Sarah (Sallie) and Margaret (Mattie). Jane died before 1860. John then married his third wife, Catherine Elizabeth Turner, and became the father of Stephen, Barbara, Elizabeth (Bettie), and Flora. The story goes that by the time the war had ended in 1865, Jack had beome embittered at the loss of his son, Jacob, son-in-laws, William Caldwell and William McCann, as well as the loss of a whole way of living.

We do not know where any of his three wives are buried. We assume it is in what is now Crenshaw County, perhaps Siloam, but can not say with certainty as there are no records. If anyone reading this has information on any of the wives, son John, or daughter, Henrietta, I would love for you to contact me. We do know daughter Mary married Robert B. Smyth/Smith but do not know where she is buried.
