Angier: Mrs. Bessie Stephenson Pope Baker, age 87, of 4000 Zack's Mill Road died Saturday evening at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehab Center in Benson. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM-Tuesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Rev. R.B. Parrish and Mr. Gene Stephenson will officiate. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Bessie was born in Johnston County on November 7, 1929 to the late Dewey R. and Mary Frances Stevens Stephenson. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Pope, daughter, Gwen Pope and all of her siblings. Mrs. Bessie retired from State Office Equipment Company, was a member of Johnson Memorial Church and attended Friendly Chapel Church.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Janet Pope of Benson and Randy and Gwen Pope of Angier; grandchildren, Travis Pope and wife Renee, Jessica Pope Downing, Solomon Pope and wife Amanda and Tony Pope and wife Nichole; great-grandchildren, Kaylie Pope, Karrie Pope, Liam Downing and Aubrey Pope; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 9:45 AM-10:45 AM prior to the service and other times at the home.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be sent to Friendly Chapel Church 11455 NC HWY 50 N. Benson, NC 27504.
