Gertrude was born on July 4, 1921, in Pigeon, Michigan, daughter of David and Lydia (Shetler) Albrecht.


Gertrude and Reuben S. Dietzel married on October 8, 1943 and raised five children. In addition to working with her husband on their farm, Gertrude worked in retail for many years at Polewach’s Department store in Pigeon, Michigan. Gertrude was an active member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church where she sang in the Ladies Chorus and quilted with the Ladies Sewing Circle. Gertrude and Reuben sold their farm and moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1973.


In Sarasota, Gertrude continued to work in retail until she retired. She was a member of Bahia Vista Mennonite Church where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. Gertrude and Reuben moved to Sunnyside Retirement Community in 1985 where she enjoyed volunteering and singing with the Sunnyside Singers throughout the years.
