Mrs. Diane T. Tompkins, 72, of River Street, Fort Plain, New York died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Palatine Nursing Home.

Born on October 19, 1944 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Silas L. Dingman and Thelma E. Smith Dingman.

She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Mrs. Tompkins has been a resident of St. Johnsville for many years. She also lived in Florida.

Mrs. Tompkins worked in the Strained Foods Department of Beech-Nut in Canajoharie until her retirement in 1992. She also worked for Helmont Mills in St. Johnsville.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain.

Mrs. Tompkins enjoyed camping, fishing, crocheting, crafts, and singing.

On December 23, 1962 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Plain, Diane was married to William E. Tompkins. He preceded her in death on December 19, 2013. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Thomas Tompkins on July 25, 1993 and 3 brothers, Leon Dingman, Ron Dingman, Larry Dingman.

Mrs. Tompkins is survived by her sons; Silas E. Tompkins of St. Johnsville, NY, William P. Tompkins and Julie of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Teonna Marie Pettingill and Michael of Seneca Falls, NY; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
