Adam C. Davis, died March 17 in Memorial Hospital. He was professor and head of the Dept. of Experimental Engineering at Cornell University.
Prof. Davis was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on November 21, 1889. He attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute for two years and Cornell University for four years, where he received his mechanical engineer degree in 1914.
He was in charge of diesel engine training in the United States Naval Reserve. Upon graduation from Cornell he became an instructor of engineering. In 1917 he was an engineering consultant for private industry. During World War I he was an instructor on military aeronautics at the United States Army School. He returned to Cornell in 1919 to become assistant professor and in 1925 he was named professor of experimental engineering. In 1936 he was appointed head of the department.
He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Atmos, Phi Kappa Phi, American Society for the promotion of Engineering Education, American Society for Metals and the American Foundrymen's Assn.
Professor Davis is survived by his widow, Susan M. Reilly Davis; his father, A.C. Davis, Sr., Goldsboro; one brother, Borden Davis, also of Goldsboro; two sisters, Mrs. W.C. Marbecar, Raleigh, North Carolina and Mrs. Will Hooker, Greeneville, North Carolina.
Private services will be held at the residence. The funeral will be held in Sage Chapel, Cornell University. The Rev. R.E. Charles, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, Ithaca will officiate. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
