Evans, Irene Graceanne (Knapp) Irene, age 101, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at her home in Kalamazoo. She was born on October 7, 1914 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Martin and Ethel (Ballett) Knapp. Irene was a 1933 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and a 1947 graduate of the American Beauty College. On May 21, 1938, she was married to Richard "Dick" G. Evans. She was the co-owner of Bellerene Beauty Shop in Parchment and a 38 year retiree from KVP/James River. Irene enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn and volunteering throughout the community. She volunteered for Loaves and Fishes for 30 years, Red Cross for 40 years, and Zion Lutheran Brail Group. Surviving are her daughter: Schari Bartholomew; six grandchildren: Mark (Sue) Evans, Scott (Gayle) Evans, Toni (Paul Florshinger) Lentner, Janette (Tim) Hendrix, Ken (Caroline) Hall and Paul Evans; sixteen great-grandchildren: Michael, Samantha, Scotty, Jake, Kaley, Cole, Amber, Roberta, Corey, Evan, Abby, Cameron, Arianna, Jocelyn, Brayden, and Jaelyn; two great-great-grandchildren: Kaleb and Isabella; daughter-in-law: Sue Evans; two sisters-in-law: Alice Evans and Eugenia Ozinga; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband of 62 years: Richard Evans Sr.; son: Richard Evans Jr.; great-grandson: TJ Hendrix; daughter-in-law: Mary Ellen (Lisk) Evans; parents; four brothers; and four sisters. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Monday, Jan. 18, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Hwy. A funeral service to celebrate Irene's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the funeral home. Pastor Len Schoenherr will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Grace Hospice, Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, Comstock Community Center, Galesburg United Methodist Church or Loaves and Fishes.
