Betty Lea Briggs, 73, passed away, Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Hospice of Rockingham County. Mrs. Briggs was born August 17, 1943, in Stokes County, to the late Posie and Lera Jane Mabe Bennett. Betty was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church and co-owner of Briggs Grocery. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved to play gospel music with the Gospel Sounds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer, Mack, and L.G. Bennett.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Briggs; son, Garry Briggs (Jessica); daughters, Jamie Harbour (Barran) and Jackie Briggs; brothers, Wayne Bennett (JoAnn) and Junior Bennett (Debbie); sisters, Virginia Cardwell and Glenda Duncan; grandchildren, Jacob and Leanna Harbour, Madey and Mallory Briggs, and Spencer Briggs Nelson.
