From Wayne County Press, 7/12/1922:

Enraged Husband Kills Young Wife Sunday

A tragedy occurred four and one half miles southwest of Orchardvile and about 15 miles northwest of Wayne City, Sunday noon, when Jack Withrow, a seventy year old farmer of that vicinity, shot and instantly killed his young wife of 25, then shooting himself, dying within a few minutes. Their home was in the east edge of Marion county.

It is reported that a third party was the immediate cause of the quarrel, and that Mr. and Mrs. Withrow had not been on the best of terms for several weeks. A fit of jealousy on the part of Withrow early Sunday morning resulted in the death of the two about noon. Further details have not been learned. Mrs. Withrow is said to be the niece of her husband.

Notes: An additional article published 7/12/1922 in the Mt. Vernon Register News gave details of the deaths and indicated that the victims were buried at the old Cincinnati church near Fairfield on "Sunday".

Andrew had 3 children:

His son, Grover Cleveland, was the child of Andrew and Mary Ellen Withrow. No evidence of a marriage has been found. But Grover was raised by Mary and her first husband, Hiram Stull.

Andrew married Rebecca Porter 12/26/1886 or 1887 in Wayne County and she died about 1898. Her burial is unknown. They had two daughters, Stella and Clara.

He married Mary Frances Porter 9/8/1913 in Carlyle, Clinton County. They do not appear to have had any children.

His wives relationships to each other and to him were quite complicated. Try this out:

1) Rebecca, his first wife, and Mary Frances, his 3rd wife, are related thru Andrew Rush Porter, father of Rebecca and grandfather of Mary Frances.

2) Mary Ellen, unmarried "wife", and Mary Frances, 3rd wife, are related thru William P. Withrow, father of Mary Ellen and grandfather of Mary Frances.

3) Mary France's mother, Sarah Frances Withrow, was Mary Ellen Withrow's sister.

4) Andrew's father, Richardson Withrow, was brother to William P. Withrow, father of Mary Ellen Withrow and grandfather of Mary Frances Porter. His 2nd and 3rd wives were thus his niece and great-niece.
