Obituary:
Mr. Briggs, 87, formerly of Fostoria, Tyrone RD 2, died at 5:25 a.m. today, Dec. 29, 1988, at Epworth Manor, Tyrone. Mr. Briggs retired as a clerk from the Pennsylvania Railroad in June 1967, after 48 years' service. He was born Oct. 31, 1901, in Bellwood, the son of Brice B. and Martha E. (Shields) Briggs, and was twice married: first on June 23, 1923, in New Florence, to Teressa K. Taylor, who died Dec. 3, 1957, and then on Sept. 16, 1960, in Hollidaysburg, to Hulda L. Griffith. Surviving are his wife of Bellwood, a son, Bruce H. of Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Eva Kurtz of Bellwood. Mr. Briggs was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood, where he was a former member of the board of trustees, former Sunday school superintendent, former custodian and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Pioneer Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Tyrone Lodge, F&AM, and AARP. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
