Sylvia was born on January 4, 1938 in Mishawaka to Adolph and Rachel (DePaepe) VanHaver.
On July 16, 1967 in Mishawaka as the former Sylvia VanHaver she married James F. Allen; he preceded her in death on April 21, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Rick Briggs
Surviving are her children, Charles (Leora) Kovacs of Monument, CO, Kim (Stephen) Dulcet of North Liberty, Julie Briggs of Mishawaka and Tina (Richard) Eyrich of Bourbon, IN; grandchildren, Adam (Amber) Briggs, Abbie (Eric) Boes, Tyson Horter, Tyra (Brian Mora) Eyrich, James Eyrich, Derek Dulcet, Stephanie (Jacob) Lichnerowicz, James Kovacs and Rachel (Josh) Matthews; great grandchildren, Gavin Briggs, Zagan Horter, Max Horter and Delaney Matthews; sister, Betty VanDaele of Dover, DE and brothers, Pete VanHaver of Mishawaka and Jim (Rae) VanHaver of Mishawaka.
Sylvia was a Florist in Pickrell's and Martins; she was a member of Riverbend Quilt Guild, Elkhart Quilt Club and was a volunteer for RealServices and Charity Quilts.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 12 at 1 p.m., with visitation from 12:15 p.m. until time of service, in Osceola United Methodist Church, 431 N. Beech Rd, Osceola. Pastor Leroy Wise will officiate. Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.
