Osceola-James Fredrick Allen, 75, passed away at home on Sunday, April 21.

James was born on May 4, 1937 in Tampa, FL to Hubert L. and Louise (Sealey) Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Goldie Young and a son-in-law, Rick Briggs.

On July 16, 1967 in Mishawaka he married the former Sylvia Van Haver. Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Sylvia; children, Charles (Leora) Kovacs of Monument, CO, Kim (Steve) Dulcet of North Liberty, Julie Briggs of Mishawaka, Tina (Richard) Eyrich of Bourbon, IN and Debbie (Shawn) Morgan of Scottsville, KY; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and a sister, Mary (Tony) Barcelona of Valrica, FL.

James proudly served his country as a Navy Seal. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 308 in Osceola. James worked as a Diesel Mechanic for Hill-White Trucking in Elkhart. He also served on the Osceola Police Department for 18 years serving as Chief for five years, during which time he also volunteered for the Osceola Fire Department and St. Joseph County Civil Defense. Jim was an outgoing person and could be counted on by his family and community. He was always fair, but firm. He was a passionate hunter and fisherman; he gained this passion when he became an Eagle Scout. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt.

A Celebration of Life will be held at American Legion Post 308 in Osceola on Sunday, April 28 from 12 to 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Center for Hospice/Hospice Foundation, 4220 Edison Lakes Pkwy Ste 210, Mishawaka, IN 46545-1440 or to Pet Refuge Inc, 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
