Charles was born to immigrant Michael Koenig and Charlotte Deibel in Indiana. His parents met in Tuscarawas County, Ohio where they were married. Charles and his mother moved back to Ohio after the death of his father.

Charles would then marry Mary Ann Brown of Jefferson Township. They started farming near Saint Jacobs Church, later purchased by Harry Neiger. They would then move to a farm owned by Michael Denzer near Evans Creek. [Michael Denzer married Elizabeth Brown, sister of Mary Ann Brown King.]

The children living at his death are Lydia King Vaupel and Edna King Krebs of Dover, Helen King Frautschy of Dover, Harry King of Stone Creek, Carl King and Wilma King of Dover. He left one sister, Phoebe King Austin of McKeesport, PA; one half-brother Sam Brown of Dover; two half-sisters Anna Brown Stitsler of Columbus and Caroline Brown Adams of Canton. A daughter, Laura King was killed in an auto accident before his death.

The family were member of the Grace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Stone Creek.
