Orlean Sherman "Corky" Bangen, age 85, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, with his family by his side.

Corky was born on July 25, 1930, in Climax, MN, to the late Helmer and Hannah (Berg) Bangen. He was raised in Climax and enlisted in the US Army from 1947-1949 and then traveled and worked around the US until he was drafted from 1952-1954 during the Korean War.

After his service, he returned home and farmed for the rest of his life in Climax, MN. On February 8, 1964, he was united in marriage with Shirley Hanson in Webster, SD.

Due to his lifelong love of the land and farming, even after his retirement he tended an expansive garden until he was too sick to do so.

Corky is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Bangen, of Climax, MN; son, Timothy Bangen of East Grand Forks, MN; 7 daughters, Terrie (Gerald) Johnson of Fosston, MN; Trudy Hofer of Crookston, MN; Tammy (Kelly) Erwin of Solway, MN; Torrey (Kraig) Ostgaard of Fisher, MN; Tonya Delaney of Park Rapids, MN; Tracey (Scott) Schmitz of Fisher, MN; and Tiffany Bangen of East Grand Forks, MN; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Rodger (Marlys) Bangen of Eau Claire, WI; and Irwin (Beverley) Bangen of Hot Springs, MT; and sister, Arlone Wolkasch of Lakewood, CA; as well as many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Hannah Bangen; brother, Harold Bangen; sisters, Ruby Broden, Fylies Roadhouse, and Mildred Gilstad; and sons-in-law, Harold Hofer, Mark Volker, and Bert Floan.
