Phyllis Watkins Searle White, age 80, died September 17, 1999 in Salt Lake City of complications following heart surgery at LDS Hospital.

Born March 4, 1919 in Salt Lake City to Keros Harry and Lily Watkins Searle the third of six children. She graduated from South High School and maintained close friendships with friends throughout all these years attending Club activities. She graduated from the University of Utah in Education and was a member of Spurs, an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She married her high school sweetheart, William Currie White on June 21, 1941 and was later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on April 19, 1962.

An infant son, David and a stillborn son preceded her in death. Survived by her beloved husband, Bill and her son, William C. White, Jr. (Carolyn) and their children, Melanie Curtis (Jeff), William C. III, Nicholas, Tandy, Anthony and Brett; daughter, Nicki Ann Shurtleff (Steven) and their children, Tad (Tabitha), Alecia, Felicity, Jill and Danielle; four great-grandchildren, Alex, Natasha, Valarie and Cole, loved their "Nanny" with all their hearts.

She taught school in Salt Lake City and Sacramento, California. As an active member of the LDS Church, was serving a Member and Statistical Records mission with her husband. She served as Primary president, teacher, Den leader, Relief Society teacher, but her love of life was music. She inspired the congregation when she lead the music, coupled with her lovely voice and smile. Her life was one of service to her family, neighbors and fellowman. Countless are the people who adopted her as a surrogate mother. Her love encompassed everyone she ever met and took them into her arms and heart. A soaring spirit like the lovely butterflies she collected, she overcame many physical challenges that came her way.

Preceded in death by her brother, Allen Watkins Searle and his wife, Helen; and sister, Beverly, who is survived by her husband, Harold Spencer. Survived by her sisters, Mary Schriever (deceased, Clarence); Ruby Brown (Richard) and Patricia Lowder (deceased, Dee).

She will be sorely missed by her family, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Her smile, her service, her mustard pickles, and caramels, roses and her twinkling blue eyes we will miss her so!

The family would like to thank the loving staff at LDS Hospital for their tender loving care.
