EAST PEORIA - Frances "Ruth" Widmer, 90, of East Peoria passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Rosewood Care Center of East Peoria.
She was born on June 11, 1926, to Adam William and Edith Anna Riggs Rapp. She married Delmer B. Widmer on December 30, 1945, in Wayland, IA, and he passed away on March 12, 2001.
Surviving are one daughter, Lucinda Jo-Ann Widmer Krendick McBride of Phoenix AZ; one son, William Eddie Widmer Sr. of East Peoria; five grandchildren, Stephen M. Krendick and Kathryn E. Krendick, both of Phoenix, C. Michael (Andrea) Widmer of Owensboro, KY, William E. Widmer Jr. of Benton, KY, and Robert D. (Lynn) Widmer of Spring Bay, IL; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph "Don" Rapp of Jacksonville; one sister, Joan Callahan of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; one daughter, Rebecca Sue Widmer; and one great-grandson, Taylor Widmer.
Ruth worked at Sears Roebuck and Bergner's in Collections.
She was a member of the First United Methodist in East Peoria, Daughters of Nile Peoria Chapter and Order of Eastern Star in East Peoria, where she was past Queen.
She loved playing Bunko and Bingo and fishing and camping with Delmer and she made new friends wherever she went.
Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont. Pastor Mary Arnold will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fondulac Township Cemetery in East Peoria.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Fondulac Park District Senior Resources.
