Dryden D. "Doc" Root, 68, of Albany died at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio after a brief illness. Services were held at the First Methodist Church and burial was at the Albany Cemetery with military graveside rites.

His service included being a member of 158th Combat Team Bushmaster, South Pacific in World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired on March 1, 1966. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Albany and a life member of the Disabled Americans Veterans, Chapter 198, Kingsland, Texas.
