He married Matilda Nixon on 17 March 1833 in Washington County, Pennsylvania.
They moved to Crawfordsville, Indiana in 1846, and then to Polk County, Iowa in 1851.
After 21 years in Iowa he moved to Humboldt, Nebraska in 1872, and then to Formoso, Kansas in 1874.
On December 30, 1880, a Land Grant title was issued to Ephraim Monasmith, Senior for the
"West Half of the North West Quarter of Section Twenty-nine and the South Half of the North East Quarter of Section Thirty, in Township Three South, of Range Six West of the Sixth Principal Meridian in Kansas, containing One hundred and sixty acres." With the help of two of his sons, Ephraim P. and Joel, Ephraim farmed this land until he died in 1893.
He was the father of eleven children:
Esther, Mary Ann, Samuel Nixon, Ephraim P., Christian, Moses Nixon, Morgan, Martin VanBuren, Joel Lee, John Lee, and Sarah Matilda Monasmith.
