JUDSON THORE BATTIN
AGE 91 YEARS

Judson Thore “Juddy” Battin, of Dushore, died peacefully at home Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017.

Born July 12, 1925, in Estella, Elkland Township, Sullivan County, he was the son of the late Harold L. Battin and Amber A. Baumunk Battin. He was a direct descendant of the earliest settlers of Sullivan County and he took pride in his family heritage.

He married Geraldine M. McMahon on June 25, 1949. They celebrated 65 years of marriage prior to her death on June 9, 2014.

After graduating from Loyalsock High School in 1944, he worked for Baumunk lumber in Forksville. After his service in World War II, he was employed by the former Fred Beasley’s Ford in Williamsport as an auto body repairman. Following his marriage to Geraldine they purchased Brown’s welding shop in Dushore in 1951, which became Battin’s Body Shop and Wrecker Service. His attention to detail and quality service was well known throughout the area. They ran the family business for 50 years until his retirement. In addition to operating the business, he enjoyed managing and caring for his small farm that included raising beef cattle, selling vegetables and running his roadside sweet corn stand.

During the school years of the late 70s and early 80s, he was a school bus driver for his nephew Royden Parrish. In his retirement, he and Geraldine enjoyed travel in the United States, visiting national museums and historic sites. Known as a man with a great sense of humor and dry wit, he could always get a smile and laugh from those around him.

His survivors are three sons, Bradley J., of Dushore, Steven J., of Philadelphia and Jamie A. and partner Shawn R. Borden, of Collegeville; a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline D. Battin, of Dushore; three grandchildren, Franklin J. (Brenda) Battin, Amber J. (Shane) Pedro and Brooke J. Battin; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Judson was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Marie Parrish and his brother, LaVerne R. Battin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Richard Rojas presiding. Burial will follow in St. Basil’s Cemetery.
