West Columbia—The Gathering for Family and Friends of William “Bill” Ray Amaker, Sr. 67, West Columbia, will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212..

Born in Columbia, SC on July 20, 1949, he was the son of the late William B. Amaker and Doris M. Rhoden Amaker. Bill was a graduate of Dentsville High School, Class of ‘67 and later received his Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina. Bill was also a member of the USC Marching Band while in college. He had worked in Richland School District One for over 20 years. Growing up in Columbia, he was an Eagle Scout and member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Bill loved camping, the outdoors, and served as Camp Commissioner at Camp Barstow.

Survivors include daughter, Lauren Ashley Amaker of Irmo; son, William Amaker, Jr. and fiancée, Brittany Register of West Columbia; sister, Deborah Amaker Cates of Columbia; grandchildren, Aubrey Marie Amaker and Abel William Amaker; nephew, Ronald Nelson Cates, Jr. and wife, Stephanie Nicole Cates, and niece, Amy Marie Cates. Lastly, his beloved family dog, Buddy. Those who preceded him in death are his parents
