JoAnn Allen Bates, loving mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016 in Provo, Utah, at the age of 75. She is the daughter of James William and Nellie Catherine Peterson Allen. She attended Spanish Fork schools and later received her degree.
JoAnn married Ronald Lee Bates and they are the parents of three children. JoAnn loved her family and devoted her life to serving them. She worked at Shepherds Egg Farm, Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Medical Records, and later transferred to Orem Community Hospital, where she retired from the Medical Records Department in 1999.
She loved to learn and reading was a favorite activity. She also enjoyed crocheting, four- wheeling with her dog, Chewy, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. JoAnn loved the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
JoAnn is survived by her children, Rick (Kristine) Bates, Debbie (Chris) Provstgaard, and Don (Anne) Bates; 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Gillson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; parents; a grandson, Cody Lee Bates; sister, Shirley Harvey; and brothers, Elden, Don, and Lynn.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
