Rachel Hinson Thomas beloved wife, mother and grandmother made a peaceful transition into heaven on December 27, 2016.

Rachel was an excellent homemaker, talented seamstress and well known throughout the community for her baking skills. Also, she was a long time member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church.

She was born December 15, 1929 to the late Elijah Wilson and Carrie Biggers Hinson of Union County, NC. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Ernest, Worth, Asher and N.B. Hinson along with sisters, Ersel H. Calloway and Janie H. Black.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 7608 Concord Hwy., Monroe, NC 28110. The funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Edd Thomas; two daughters, Vangela T. Clontz (Gary) and Shan T. Kershner; grandchildren, Kerri Monfalcone (Andy), Scott Clontz (Kathryn), Shari Sawyer (Scott), Amanda Helms (Allen), and Jeremy Cooper; several great grandchildren, Joseph Clontz, Sam Clontz, Grady Sawyer, Olivia Sawyer, Claire Sawyer, Avett Monfalcone, Wren Monfalcone, Alyssa Helms, Grady Helms and Kendra Cooper; one sister, Sarah Clontz.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215, Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 7608 Concord Hwy., Monroe, NC 28110 or Fairview Fire Dept., Station 3, 7402 Concord Hwy., Monroe, NC 28110.
