Raymond Gerszewski

Raymond Gerszewski, 83, of Northwood, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at
the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, Iowa, with Rev. David Kucera
officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in
Manly.

Raymond Gerszewski was born on Aug. 31, 1920, in Ardoch, North Dakota,
in Walsh County, the son of Alexander and Stella (Paschke) Gerszewski.
He was christened at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, North
Dakota. He attended and received his education in the rural country
school near Argyle, Minnesota. Ray began his elevator-building career
in 1948. In 1951, he worked for Selettbo Construction based in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, for 21 years as a foreman for siding and roofing.

He married Selma Nelson on Dec. 28, 1968, at the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Manly. In 1970, he began working at B&K Lumber yard in
Northwood. In 1985, he retired and became an avid gardener.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Selma Gerszewski of Northwood;
stepson, Kenneth Nelson and his wife Cindy of Gordonsville, Minnesota,
stepdaughter Mary Groe and her husband Charles of Northwood, seven
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; five sisters, Anna Seeba
of Grafton, North Dakota, Frances Kazmierczak of Steven, Minnesota,
Gertrude Biggs and her husband Paul of Grand Forks, North Dakota,
Loretta Lechner and her husband Robert of Mantorville, Minnesota,
and Magdaline Kostrzewski and her husband John of Steven, Minnesota;
six brothers, Thomas Gerszewski and his wife Christine of Warroad,
Minnesota, Chester Gerszewski and his wife Mary of Minneapolis,
Minnesota, Peter Gerszewski and his wife Frances of Newfolden,
Minnesota, William Gerszewski and his wife Margaret of Warren, Minnesota,
Joseph Gerszewski and his wife Margaret of Argyle, Minnesota, and
Steven Gerszewski of Argyle, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews;
as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, SGT. Leo
Gerszewski, and Alexander Gerszewski, and a sister, Eleanor Smith.
