Selma H. Gerszewski, 90, of Northwood, passed away Tuesday (May 8, 2012) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday (May 14, 2012) at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 Broadway, Manly, with the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling as Celebrant. Committal services will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Manly.

A visitation will be held on Sunday evening (May 13, 2012) from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. S., Northwood, where the Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m.

Selma Helen Nelson Gerzewski was born on March June 26, 1921 in Montpelier, North Dakota, the daughter of Sena Thompson. She grew up in rural Northwood and was confirmed at North Shell Rock Lutheran Church.

In 1939 Selma was united in marriage to Clarence Nelson; they raised two children together, Kenneth and Mary. In 1968 Selma married Ray Gerszewski.
For many years Selma worked at Deluxe in Lake Mills and also at Carol George. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Selma was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ladies American Auxiliary.

Those grateful in sharing in Selma's life are her children, Kenny (Cindy) Nelson, Northwood, and Mary (Charles) Groe, Ankeny; six grandchildren, Troy Hillman and friend Robin, Gordonsville, Minn., Angie (Lance) Keltner, Story City, David (Kelli) Nelson, Albert Lea, Jerry (Tina) Groe, Greenbay, Wis., Matthew Groe, Jacksonville, FL., James Groe, Cedar Falls, and Eric Fishback, Ankeny; nine great grandchildren; a brother, George (Ida) Thomspson, Cole; and many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in law.

She is preceded in death by her mother; her brother, Harlan Thompson; her husbands, Clarence and Ray; and her great granddaughter, Rebecca Groe Fishback.
We will always remember her laughter and cherish the memories she left us.
