Ella was the eldest of the nine children of Thomas Yarborough (1852-1895) and Winifred (Winnie) Pearson Yarborough (1858-1937). She died just two weeks before her father. The family suffered the loss of several of their children very young; only one, Ella's sister Lonie Belle, lived to old age. Four died as infants or very young children (Tollie Marvin, Eudora Vivian, Sara Ada, and Eva May). Two died as young adults (Ella and her brother Mahlon Pearson). Two died in young middle age (James Elmos and John Harvey).

As the newspaper accounts pictured say, Ella had long been ill before her untimely death. She was a member of Days Methodist Church in Liverpool, LA, and a devout person.
